- A new author’s persistent, and sometimes serendipitous, journey into the book publishing and movie world promoting her Jamaican mother's story. A catastrophic event late in her life was the catalyst that motivated Marie to write her first book, Olga - A Daughter's Tale. Discovering that she loved writing, Marie decided to write her first screenplay, Olga, based on her book. It was a writing project that took over three years to complete, a journey that not only honed Marie's writing skills, but taught her three things - patience, perseverance and never to take no for an answer, attributes she says didn't have previously. Marie is currently pitching Olga to film production companies. From Book to Film is Marie's second book, soon to be published. Marie thought it worth sharing her writing experience in the hope that it may assist new writers, who are thinking about writing either a book or screenplay, from making the same mistakes she did. It's an honest account about the highs, the lows, the successes, the mistakes, and sometimes, the luck that Marie had with both the book and the screenplay.

Why I Wrote ”Olga – A Daughter’s Tale”
Olga – A Daughter’s Tale, is the story of Olga Browney, born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and one of eleven children from a close-knit coloured Catholic family. A kind, naïve and gentle girl, Olga came to London in 1939 to live with her malevolent, alcoholic aunt and intending to stay only six months. But world events, personal tragedy and malicious intent all combined to prevent her from returning to her family in Kingston. Based on a true story and written using diary entries and letters, Olga – A Daughter's Tale is about cruelty, revenge and jealousy inflicted on an innocent young woman and about her moral courage, dignity, resilience and in particular, love. It is the story of a remarkable woman who because of circumstances made a choice which resulted in her losing contact with her beloved family in Jamaica. That is until nearly half a century later, when her past caught up with her.-
